Work Shop

Work shops are run in Bangkok, Pattaya and Samui. One bar is targeted each day. The bar or parlour owner is contacted first then, once permission has been obtained, evening workshops are conducted inside the premises. These include; education and information on HIV/AIDS, human rights and legal information, English language classes for the clients that can’t attend class at the drop in centre.

SWING aimed to train 1,840 MSWs at 92 sex-work venues, located in both Bangkok and Pattaya in 2011, comprised of 1,120 MSWs in 56 sex-work venues in Bangkok and 720 MSWs in 36 sex-work venues in Pattaya.  Over the course of the four quarters, SWING trained 1,143 MSWs in 58 sex-work venues across Bangkok and 421 MSWs in 25 sex-work venues across Pattaya. 

In the first quarter, the activity involved 80 MSWs working at four sex-work venues in Bangkok and 110 MSWs at 10 sex-work venues in Pattaya. In the second quarter, SWING trained 179 new MSWs across eight sex-work venues in Bangkok and 89 across six sex-work venues in Pattaya. In the third quarter, there were 420 additional MSWs in 28 sex-work venues in Bangkok and 124 new MSWs in nine sex-work venues in Pattaya joining the activity. 

In the fourth quarter, SWING staff trained 464 MSWs in 18 sex-work venues across Bangkok and 98 MSWs in nine sex-work venues across Pattaya.
